Monsoon Affair with Monochrome

Monsoon brings end to scouring heat of summer and the pleasant weather gets under way. There is a positive change in the atmosphere and life becomes beautiful. But, rain doesn't mean going back to the bygones; the change in the weather also demands alteration of your wardrobe. Monsoon fashion has always been associated with light fabric, bright colours, and rain affable clothing. But I always wondered, how would just black and white look during the season?!

Shades of black and white and the damp weather are not usually synonymous. I always had the intuition that translucent white and perennial black individually might not look admirable, but coupled together the two could look divine if carried out properly during the deluge. The thought compelled me to experiment with monochrome and the end result is what you are going to see in the pictures below.

top : Zara | culottes : Pantaloons | heels : Dorothy Perkins
watch, cuff : Daniel Wellington | ring, choker : Myntra

The simplicity of monochrome makes it a timeless classic and it's a revival to dominate our wardrobes in 2017. Whether it's prints, stripes or colour blocking, working the monochrome look is so easy, like my new look that includes a pair of striped culottes from Pantaloons with polka dot tee from Zara tethered in a crop top!

Well, this culotte style features a voluminous leg that billows out from a clinched waist and ends to 2 inches above the ankle making it a great substitute for pants and denims, saving you from drenching and wet hemlines. There’s also a comfort aspect to them — the flowy polyester fabric makes it just so cool! High waist tie-ups and vertical stripes are my favorite for the season (or just anyway), cause they make me look slimmer and taller respectively, and it's wonderful you see. As for the tee, it's a white cotton piece with black polka dots, with a broad v-neck that I off-pulled from the shoulders and knotted at the end shortening it in length. There’s something chic about those cropped polkas and lengthy stripes right now, that make the look appear apt for a work place and a party right after that, eh?

Accessorizing the look minimalistically, I simply added a black choker to edge up my neck, a finger ring in black stone, a pair silver sterling mesh strap watch with a slim cuff from Daniel Wellington's latest collection to sprinkle some glamour, finishing off the look with a solid white strappy footwear to keep the monochrome theme in running, very proudly from top-to-toe!

Rips and Wings (ft. Myntra)

Hey fellas, hope all's going great! I'd been occupied with my semester exams and a lot more errands in all this while, and I know you've been waiting for this post since quite some time. The glimpses from this look, that most of you saw on my Snapchat already gave you an idea about how perfectly classy my bohemian outfit had come out to be with the pieces I picked from the summer collection from MYNTRA!

Well, after creating so many boho looks and writing about the same on this blog itself, has me feeling like I've mastered the art. But with every look that I create, I've learnt that its the most versatile and enduringly popular trends, with an almost unlimited number of ways to stamp your own character on the style, suiting almost everyone! Today's outfit is about free flowing fabrics and distressed styles. Take a look below at all pictures and details..

top : Anouk | jeans : Roadster | footwear : StreetStyleStore | bracelet : House of Tuhina | earrings : Myntra

Looking at the pictures above, I'm sure you're in love with those bell sleeves, eh? Tbh, for a very long time, I tried understanding how could someone design such huge sleeves (almost like bat wings) for little women like me who could cover themselves entirely in it! No no, just kiddin'. I was swayed by how creatively simple this red top is with those elegant kimono sleeves and a crop length that fits apt on the waist. Its a cotton fabric, lose and airy and just so perfect for this summer season! Well, it’s no secret that the style crowd loves to inject a little drama into their outfits, and the statement sleeve is the ideal way to do so, in the most contemporary technique. I got this one from Anouk's ethnic collection on Myntra and it can be rightly paired with any skirt, or jeans, or leggings, or even salwar!

Though, I teamed it up with a pair of fancily ripped denims bought from Roadster on Myntra. To westernise the look and add a touch of class to the authentic bohemian fashion, this pair of blue jeans helped me up my game! However, ripped jeans are meant to look effortless but in reality they’re so much more effort to put on. You have to gently shimmy them up your legs, praying your foot doesn’t go through the knee hole and rip all the way through, turning your jeans into jorts. With this skin-fitted pair, I almost get chills every time I run them up my legs, though it is stretchable and airy again, with those designer holes all through. PS : If you’re in any doubt that the ripped jean is a fleeting trend, you’d be wrong. Distressed denim has been around for a while and it’s not going anywhere, so you know you're picking up some right pieces soon!

Boho fashion sometimes seems tricky, but if you're a crackerjack, you know it could be just-a-snap for you. Previously, in my boho posts, I had mentioned that accessories are an important part of this style. But with this look, being the minimalist that I am, chose to embrace the dramatic sleeves of the top and the ripped bottom wear and just add a pair of nude colored earrings, with a bronze metallic bracelet twined in red thread, only to match the red mules I wore in my feet to add some girly glam. Also, added a little more drama to my eyes, creating a tic-tac-toe board with the graphic liner and did my hair into a half bun to keep it summer friendly yet sassy!

I took a lot of time to create a combination of elements that work well with my body shape, and the results are here. If you liked this post, do let me know in the comments below, and share it across to show your friends that boho trend can be ultra-classy too! And, for more OOTDs and daily updates, keep in touch with me on facebook, instagram and twitter. I'd love to connect with y'all!

Pop Fashion 101

The fashion industry is at once the most visible and overlooked of cultural sectors where fashion statements are often both influential and philosophy-laden and, therefore, often need to be considered, analysed, or challenged. When we open our closet doors each morning, we seldom consider what our sartorial choices say, whether we tend toward jeans and a well-worn concert t-shirt or wingtips and a three-piece suit. Yet, how we dress divulges more than whether we crave comfort or couture; our clothing communicates who we are and how we relate to our culture.

Today, as I write this post for you, I feel my style and sense of fashion has evolved into popular culture by mixing both western and traditional clothing in my dressing often! Its been long that I have been combining fashion theory with approaches from literature, art, music, advertising, media studies, and sociology, which seems to have the capacity to both influence and be influenced by popular culture, and its meaning is also contingent upon context. Well, as the fashion that appears in "pop style fad" imagery too closely resembles the constructs found in the creators of high fashion, I am here to share with you a look that might act as a medium for self-expression covering a host of stellar designs!

Fashion-conscious youth like me pay attention to minute details such as color and design while buying clothes, and when you are in a creative field, anything and everything inspires you, which could be nature, architecture, colors or just anything around! It took me a few days' time to figure out that there are still some fashion-girl trends that even the most style adept have trouble mastering with total confidence. A mix of westernised clothes with Indian cuts still needs a lot of stylised blends may it be in fabric, patterns or draping, and while my recent shopping included a lot of solos (which means that I bought them not because I needed them, but only because I liked their cuts, prints and colors), I thought of creating a pop culture look which might help you solve the trend turmoil!

kurta : Anouk | leggings : Kook n Keech | dupatta : Aksara | bag : Old Buy
heels : StreetStyleStore | necklace : Shopnineteen | watch : Cheapo

When we talk of pop culture fashion, most of to what I've been reading since years is majorly constituted of the Japanese styles incorporated from the U.S. at one time. But darling, when I say fashion in Japan, its not confined to Kimonos! There's a lot more to it like skinny bottoms with long flowy shirts or dresses, astonishing platform shoes and radical makeup. Taking inspiration from the same kind of popular fashion culture, I chose to team up a pair of black Marvel leggings from Kook n Keech with a modernised short kurta from Anouk, that has the trending cat print on it, brought down straight from the runway inspired by Marc Jacobs' latest cat design collection, and a bright floral bluish-pink dupatta from Aksara, giving it an Indian twist!

Swiftly gracing this summery outfit, I added a fussy looking fringe necklace from complementing the fringe bag I hung as a cross body in brown color. By looking at the pictures you must have noticed I tried to keep the color scale of my outfit on a brighter tone as compared to the earthy accompaniments like the leather platform heels matched with a leather strap wrist watch in brown along with other accessories as mentioned. I must tell you that my heels might appear to be impractical or uncomfortable but these are one of the most comfy pair of footwear I've ever owned to look taller!

To finish off, my MUA chose to pin my hair up in a side bun, color my lips deep pink simply to match the kurta and add a few defined lines of kohl creating a checker box near my eyes making it look unconventional, and if you bump into me only to fine me sporting it on a regular day, you'd probably think I've become a wackadoo! But you'd also agree that it does look cool. Well, now that I've shown you a way to style an eccentric look, I hope y'all will try to incorporate it the next time you're fanatic over a pop fashion style, and oh, just to mention if you kept on thinking pop fashion means discovering and replicating pop star fashion, you should probably just laugh it off! :p

PS : This entire look contains all clothing from Myntra, and I really hope you liked it, and if you did, do let me know in the comments below. Also, if you have a personal pop fashion style to suggest, please drop me a message and we can cover it up in the next post maybe! Until then, lot of love.

Swag Bharat with Myntra - Part 2

Hey everyone! Hope y'all have been good throughout. Well, I've been doing great here and tons of thanks to you guys for liking the first part of Myntra's #SwagBharat theme that I posted on this blog last night. Thanks for the unconditional love, really! With that, today I've got you another fusion-boho-inspired look to continue with the #SwagBharatFashionGig in collaboration with MYNTRA, which is extremely comfortable and easy to assemble! Check out all details below..

top : Sassafras | skirt : Soundarya | boots : Mochi | bag : Diwaah
necklace, bracelet : Myntra | black ring : Jabong | triangular ring : Blinglane

Today, the revival of this aesthetic has come with a new meaning to the word 'Bohemian'. The present-day Bohemian girl represents a free spirit, who is well-cultured, loves to travel, and is known as adventurous because of both her clothing choices and her lifestyle! Just like a painting, or a song, fashion also plays a main role in the fusion of different cultures and influences. Season to season, we see fashion face some radical changes, but the east and west mixture is inescapable, resulting always in a beautiful, artistic and also commercial masterpiece representing a multicultural society of fashion savvys!

Now, as we know, long kurtas with skirts are the quintessential boho outfit. The combination is casual and looks suave, and the rad thing about this amazing duo is that it can be easily dressed up or you can keep it slouchy chic as well in the spring-summer season, and pondering over the same thoughts, I recently shopped for a beautiful hand printed, cotton wrap-around skirt from Myntra's ethnic skirt collection under the brand Soundarya. To me, skirts appear as a timeless trend and my A-lined pick looked nothing less than a stunner, when teamed up with a bright orange fringe top with bell sleeves and a low slit on the back, bought from Sassafras on Myntra! A dash of multi-colored jewelry, a cute bandhni print bag with red tassels from Diwaah and black western boots from Mochi were my perfect accompaniments!

My experience while shopping my favorite fusion-boho look on the Myntra app was extremely fun and so affordable! Do join in the #MyntraBigFashionGig from 8th - 10th April on Myntra and enjoy shopping from tons of brands there. Also, did you notice the eccentric eye makeup that my friend Divya Vishnani did there? Its one of the most amazing parts of this look and I cannot stop gazing at it. I hope you liked it too! :)

Swag Bharat with Myntra - Part 1

Fashion is an ever evolving and vibrant segment and we Indians are getting more and more conscious regarding our looks, while our preference grows toward ethnic apparels with a touch of modernity. A contemporary fashion getting popular in recent times is 'fusion wear' which is a creative blend of styles of any two or more cultures! Silhouettes are basically from Western influence, and are blended with Indian textiles and styling, but in today's time its a preferred choice of people of all class and ages.

Hence, I partnered with MYNTRA under their #SwagBharat theme to showcase a fresh new fusion look for you that not only consists of an elegant and trendy appearance, but also makes it suitable for wearing at all kinds of occasions. Below is a detailed description as to how I shopped from the website to create the whole look!

shirt : Lokal South | patiala salwar : Ira Soleil | footwear : Gifted | earrings : Aarna Designs

Online shopping has always excited me, because bruh where else can you shop even at midnight wearing your jammies without having to wait in ques and crowds picking up from more than lacs of stylish pieces? Thousands of brands to choose from, Myntra has been my on-the-go shopping portal since the age of 16 when I use to buy all latest clothing that popped up my ad feed with so many price offers! Well, the love has continued since then and with my recent shopping experience at Myntra, I only have to say that its just the one stop destination for all.

Coming to my look, it took me a while to decide that I'd like to keep it quirky yet subtle with my picks! While scrolling through the women's shirts section on the Myntra app, I came across this swanky looking shirt from Lokal South with a chandra bindu print on it with multi colored base including bright orange borders! I just had to get it because it looked so quirky and also complemented the gold-toned shimmer patiala that I opted for from Ira Soleil under Myntra's women's ethnic-wear salwar collection. The bright colored shirt add so much grace to the easy to wear and breathe-in (stretchable pull up), dusky patiala when I styled it, and to up the look a bit, I added a pair of spunky pompom-loop earrings from Aarna Designs and authentic punjabi juttis from Sunita Collections with a cute pompom on it as well that looked nothing less than magical!

Well, I really prefer the Indo-western fusion garments since they've now become 'the in thing'. These garments are gaining acceptance in the our mindsets, and are becoming the choice of apparel at formal and informal events, while my version of Indo-western styling seems a combination of westernised shirt and Indian patiala salwar with summer friendly fabrics that appear quite chic! So, if this post excites you, you should go be a part of the #MyntraBigFashionGig starting from 8th April - 10th April, and shop your own Myntra looks at amazing prices, and of course you can thank me later!

OnlyXGarfield

Remember the grumpy orange cat telling us that 'Good Morning is a contradiction in terms?' Oh yes, the epitome of laziness, obsessive eating, coffee, and disdain of Mondays and diets, GARFIELD is back after spawning several animated games, TV shows and movies to make its mark in the fashion world. One of the leading fashion brands, ONLY has recently launched its designer collection featuring one of the world's favorite animated character who not only tickled our ribs while we read his comic strips, but also made us fall in love with cats and kittens in so many years!

shirt : ONLY | shorts : Forever21 | shoes : StreetStyleStore | bag : StalkBuyLove
hair clip : Faballey | bracelets : Myntra

ONLY is one of my on-the-go clothing pick brands and I love to pull off their pieces because they're so voguish and comfy. The latest collection in the stores mark the crazy antics of Garfield in so many different styles that got me super excited and I chose to pick the striped longline shirt in powder blue color and cotton fabric, to carry in trend! I teamed it up with a pair of denims shorts and white ankle boots and accessorized minimally with bracelets and a bright orange feather clip to keep in sink to the color of the character print. A bag was just an optional addition and you can ditch it if you're only lazing around in the lounge this summer!

Having said that, is there anything more satisfying than bossing an outfit your mates can only dream of pulling off? Obviously not! But, because almost everyone already towing the long line was failing hard, it made me think for a while if this shirt is what I'm gonna try my hands on for atleast once and I love how effortlessly chic it appeared! Wearing your clothes oversized, longline-loving, proportion-playing, silhouette-shifting pieces offer a way and its only you who can to cut through and make your style known. So girls, barge into the ONLY stores today or find the shirt online on KOOVS, go for it and let me know how else did you pair up this Garfield piece (or more from the collection). I'll be waiting for your tags on instagram!

New Year's Party Looks (ft. ONLY)

Hola people! With just a few more hours left for 2016 to end, I hope this year has been great for all of you. Many of you must have made plans to attend new year eve parties, and many of you have already put reminders for different award shows flashing on TV tonight, I know. Well, whatever you have scheduled, one thing you can be sure of is a great welcome for 2017 in high spirits!

Having said the above, let me tell you that I've planned for an evening out with my friends to celebrate NYE in passion, and have got 2 different looks up for you in this post using the same short sequin dress I bought recently from ONLY, and plan to wear tonight (well of course carrying just one of the looks myself).

ONLY, as a brand needs no elaborate explanation as it holds a prominent name in the fashion world for all style enthusiasts! While strolling in the brand store, I found this eye-catching blue and black sequins dress hung on a mannequin and I knew its going to be in bag within minutes. Its widely said that sequins can take any outfit from 0 to 10 instantly, but full-on sequins isn’t everyone’s cup of champagne. Below are two different looks I've created by adding different layers and accessories to my dress, proving that I'm definitely one of the enthusiasts to sport sequins in style, so scroll down below to check them out now..

Look #1 - Sexy Mania

dress : ONLY  |  jacket : StalkBuyLove.com  |  heels : FactoryRush.com
watch : Fossil  |  earrings : H&M  |  rings : Myntra

Its quite cliche but also very attractive when comes to wearing flashy clothes for parties. Many of us eschew the quintessential glittery cocktail attire and want a look that’s eye-grabbing and festive. And there’s no shortage of strategies for composing such a thing — after all, sequins were one of 2016’s standout trends.

For my first look, I layered my cut sleeves sequins dress with a black leather jacket (essential to keep me warm) with intricate gold mechanisms. Hung a pair of black tassels from H&M and threw in a pair of black peep-toes that are way too comfy for a dance night! Sporting a black metallic wrist watch was a last minute decision because it just gave a wild and sexy appearance as complimenting my jacket!

Coming to my makeup, I wanted something bold and outrageous, so my dear friend and an amazing MUA, Divya Vishnani gave me a striking blue eye shadow with winged liner, little blush on my cheeks and bright red lips. We did a mix of straightening and curling with my hair and I was all set to step out for a gala night!

Look #2 - Fun Fancy

dress : ONLY  |  shrug : Fashion Big Bazaar (FBB)  |  shoes : StreetStyleStore.com  |  clutch : StalkBuyLove.com
bracelets : Auhna Creations  |  earrings : Colaba (Mumbai)  |  rings : Myntra

You may call it unrealistic, but you gotta believe me when I say that a glitzy sequins outfit can be worn even for a day party. For many of us who prefer sleeping off the new year's eve, often plan for a day out with our dear ones, and mostly for an extravaganza where all of want to look our best! This new year, pick a swanky shimmer dress like mine and layer it with a full sleeved, sparkly black shrug to keep it light and comfortable. Sport your favorite metallic slip-ons to jump around freely!

You can get away with some large, flashy jewelry for the occasion, but there is still such a thing as "too much of a good thing." Instead of wearing several large pieces of jewelry, find one piece that can take center stage like round chandelier earrings and stack a few finger rings & bracelet lines to keep it simple and subdued!

PS : I carried the same showy eye-makeup for this look too, as was seen above in the first one, and also the same hairdo. Though, you can always go ahead and experiment with your ideas!

-----------------------------

I really hope you liked this post. Count this as a quick present from me to you for the last of 2016. This year has been wonderful for me with a little tit bits here and there, but I'm grateful to each one of you for always appreciating my work and motivating me and helping me do my best each time. As we bid goodbye tonight, let's all make a wish for a bigger and better 2017 for everyone around.

Keep in touch with me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and follow me on Snapchat for my daily madness. Until next time, lots of love and best wishes!
